Diatonic scale #1

A scale is derived from each of the diatonic chords described in the previous chapter.

Such a scale is called “Diatonic Scale”.

The description is given with Key=C involving no accidentals “”# or “b” as an example.

① Ionian

R(Root), 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
The scale is the same as C major scale described in , but is also called “Ionian Scale”.

② Dorian

R, 2,♭3, 4, 5, 6,♭7
The scale from the second sound of C major scale is D Dorian scale.

③ Phrygian

R,♭2,♭3, 4, 5,♭6,♭7
The scale from the third sound of C major scale is E Phrygian scale
This is one of my favorite scales featuring “b2” and “b6” sound.

④ Lydian

The scale from the fourth sound of C major scale is F Lydian scale

⑤ Mixolydian

The scale from the fifth sound of C major scale is G Mixolydian scale

⑥ Aeolian

The scale from the sixth sound of C major scale is A Aeolian scale, which is also called natural minor scale.

⑦ Locrian

The scale from the seventh sound of C major scale is B Locrian scale, which, like the Phrygian scale, comprises “b2” and “b6” notes.
