You now know how to use the melodic minor scales, so let’s see how they actually sound.
The scales are played on “F9(13)”.
First, I will play F mixolydian Scale, which is not in the melodic minor scale.
Contents
F mixolydian
Perfectly inside sound.
F lydian ♭7
This sound is obtained only by replacing the perfect fourth B♭ of F mixolydian with sharp fourth B.
F altered
This has a very outside sound because F9(13) has no altered tension.
Well, this is the end of this advanced class.
I hope the melodic minor scale will enrich your phrasings.
For the final video, I will improvise on Cm7 with C Melodic minor Scale.
C jazz minor
Summary
- Play melodic minor perfect fifth above to get Lydian♭7 scale.
- Play melodic minor half step above to get altered scale.
