In this chapter, I will teach you 7th chords in the melodic minor scale.

Let’s divide the chords into groups as described in Chapter 4.

Each group includes chords with common chord tones.

Tonic Chords Group

Sub Dominant Chords Group

Dominant Chords Group

Here, Am7(♭5) is little tricky.

This chord and CmM7 in the tonic group have three common notes. However, the chord does not include “B note” which is a characteristic note in CmM7, so it should be in the subdominant group rather than the tonic group as a substitute chord.

It looks quite simple when they are listed like this. You can get many ideas by playing chords and melodies from this list.
